Smoothie Queen In The Making?

I love smoothies, but the cost of going and having someone else make it for me can get quite expensive. I always saw blending to be such a chore for some reason, but recently decided that I wanted to give it a try and see if I could incorporate smoothies into my diet. I struggle with getting fruits and vegetables into my diet partially because I try to only buy and budget for what I need for particular recipes, so getting extra ingredients for something that I may not eat because I'm not hungry usually results in a waste of money. However, I do know that I struggle with eating breakfast. I am NOT a morning person. If I am going to have something for breakfast it's either because my husband was nice enough to make it for me OR it was something I could just pick up and eat like a banana or some other fruit I can just grab. Then again, since I don't usually budget for fruit and mostly focus on lunch and dinner recipes, I end up not having anything fast for breakfast and being that I'm not a morning person anyway, I tend to slug my way through the morning until I can finally feel like eating which is typically around 11AM.

This isn't healthy for me and I know it! So I am trying to change this, one delicious smoothie at a time. I dusty off my blender that gets used on rare occasions and made a trip to the grocery store with a minimum list so that I didn't overwhelm myself with too many options. Here is how I came out!

In total with taxes I spent around $17. So far I have been able to conquer a smoothie every morning for the past two mornings and I am sure I can get another week if not a little bit more out of my stash, so as far as feeling like I would spend too much, it comes out to about $1.88 a day or perhaps a little less if I stretch out my recipes a little bit more. Currently I am enjoying about a cup of froze fruit, a cup of spinach and kale, about a half a cup of almond milk or less, a half to a whole banana, and a few pieces of ice to add a little bit of water. I have yet to try the peanut butter, but I am thinking a banana and peanut butter smoothie would taste good.

This is what my concoction looks like! It could probably be a little smoother, but I'll need a new blender for that. It tastes surprisingly delicious considering there is spinach and kale in it! But then again, spinach and kale don't really have a strong flavor so I am not sure what I was expecting. I think I will add more next time!

I have seen some recipes that call for chia seeds, protein or other additives and I am not quite ready to take that kind of plunge, but eventually I hope to venture into adding more healthy options to my smoothies. For now, I will continue to push myself to have breakfast every morning. I have struggled with not eating breakfast since I was a kid, so I have a lot of years of habit forming to undo and redo.
Until next time!

Well, hello. I was debating on if I wanted to start over or just continue blogging here and staying here won. However, I have changed my blog and YouTube name from bookge3k to It's Panders! My husband and I also have a joint blog for all things geeky called jPanders, which is our nicknames combined!  It has definitely been a long time since I have updated this blog and oh my how things have changed in my life! I am now married to my wonderful best friend of 8 years! We got married in September of 2014 and it was one of the happiest days of my life, if not the happiest. It was just him and I on a romantic evening, overlooking downtown in the city that we live in.

So what is this blog's focus now?

Before I was mostly doing book reviews and while I do love reading and doing book reviews, I felt limited in the content that I was able to share. I began doing YouTube videos regarding books back in 2010 and since then the YouTube or as they call it now, BookTube community, has exploded. I am so proud to see that more people are involved in a community that when I started, wasn't really a community as it was more a handful of people talking about books on the internet. So with that being said my blog and YouTube's new focus is an All About Me approach. From books, movies, anime, to crafting, planning/planners, food, or any other topic that I may be experiencing or enjoying. I am looking forward to spending more time blogging and vlogging once more.

I have many great things planned out and I can't wait to share what I have been up to since I posted last. I do want to take a moment to thank those who have stayed subscribed to both my blog and my YouTube channel and I hope to once again bring you content you enjoy!

I shall see you again soon!

ABCS of Geekiness [A: Comic or Manga]

(The ABCs of Geekiness is a series created by myself in which I go through the alphabet, discussing my favorite anime, books, movies, games, comics, and music. The title that I pick as my favorite must begin with the corresponding letter of the alphabet. Note: This list is not comprehensive, there are several others I wish I could talk about, but I'll only pick one for time's sake.)

This weeks letter is A and the category for today is **COMICS/MANGA**. You will also be able to indicate what letter and category we are on based upon the image above. Please feel free to join me in this series, but please credit and link me back as the creator. Thank you. :)

One of my favorite anime is A Little Snow Sugar Fairy, which also happens to be a manga, so I chose it for my manga beginning with the letter A! See a better picture of the Snow Sugar Fairy above! The manga follows a girl who lives in Germany who finds a little being tinier than her palm and we find out that she is a fairy! In fact, she is the Snow fairy who can play a magical instrument and make snow fall. We then meet other fairies who also specialize in different seasons of the year. It is a very girly and cute manga and I love it!

My comic choice is The Avengers! I am excited, of course, about the movie this month and have been waiting on it for a long time. I saw some clips of Scarlett Jo that I wasn't too impressed with so I am hoping all my anticipation isn't thrown out the window. So, we shall see!

What is your favorite comic/manga that begins with the letter A? :)

ABCs of Geekiness [A: Books]

(The ABCs of Geekiness is a series created by myself in which I go through the alphabet, discussing my favorite anime, books, movies, games, comics, and music. The title that I pick as my favorite must begin with the corresponding letter of the alphabet. This weeks letter is A and the next category for today is Books! You will also be able to indicate what letter and category we are on based upon the image above. Please feel free to join me in this series, but please credit and link me back as the creator. Thank you. :)

There are many books that begin with the letter A that I could choose from, but I had to go with An Abundance of Katherines by John Green. If you've read my blog, then you know how I feel about John and his awesomeness. An Abundance of Katherines follows Colin, a teenage boy who delights me with his ingenuity. The book is charming and made me laugh out loud on quite a few occasions and in John Green fashion, was an awesome read and a book that will stay on my book shelf for my own children to enjoy some day.

ABCs of Geekiness Week #1 [A: Anime]

(The ABCs of Geekiness is a series created by myself in which I go through the alphabet, discussing my favorite anime, books, movies, games, comics, and music. The title that I pick as my favorite must begin with the corresponding letter of the alphabet. Note: This list is not comprehensive, there are several others I wish I could talk about, but I'll only pick one for time's sake.)

This weeks letter is A and the first category for today is Anime. You will also be able to indicate what letter and category we are on based upon the image above. Please feel free to join me in this series, but please credit and link me back as the creator. Thank you. :)

Akira is a well known anime-movie that is set in a dystopian Tokyo, Japan. The two main characters are in a motorcycle gang and end up getting involved in a government project. The anime is based loosely on a manga whose length exceeds 2,000 pages. (And I thought I was long winded.) I like this anime's art as well as its story line. I consider it to be a classic anime worth watching for those interested in anime, but have yet to give it a try, or anime gurus who already watch anime. It is not too confusing and is easy followed. I prefer subtitled anime over English dubs, but you can readily find Akira available in both.

I also created a video vlog about Akira.

Today I had the privilege of meeting Shay Carl and his wife Collette (from Shaytards, if you don't know what that is, please go to YouTube and looked them up!) at Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University in Franklin. About a month ago Shay had put on a vlog that he was coming to my home city to do the Music City Marathon and I was hoping for a meet up, but knew that he would be busy and probably wouldn't have time to do one. Luckily, I found out yesterday that he decided to do a meet up as he was scheduled to do an interview for Ramsey.

I was nervous about going and almost opted not to go, but last minute I found myself sitting in the lobby of the building, waiting for Shay and Collette to appear. I was unsure of what door they were going to be coming out of, so I anxiously looked from door to door. There were about 40 or so other people waiting as well, which doesn't seem like a lot, but when everyone is ready to pounce it seemed like a lot. After about 15 minutes of anticipation, out of the corner of my eye I saw the elevator across from my seat open and out they came! My heart immediately began to pound a million miles an hour and I squealed, despite efforts to not sound like a fan girl. It looked like this. You can tell I was squealing because of the blurriness.

Collette immediately came up to me and gave me a hug. I was the first person she talked to! I was flabbergasted, she asked my name which I could barely get the syllables out of my mouth, and I told her how nice it was to meet her, etc. She then was bombarded by a couple of girls and I started snapping pictures, until I realized I was only getting pictures of her with other people. So I swooped back in and got a picture taken with her.

She is so beautiful and stylish - and SWEET and genuine. She truly seemed like she was grateful for her followers and took special time with everyone that came up with her. She is definitely very patient and non-judgmental. She has to be one of the nicest people I have ever met!

I then scouted out Shay and if there is anything I can say about Shay is that he lights up the room around him. He is so charismatic and charming; it's no wonder he has made such a huge success out of his online persona. He looked me right in the eye and made me feel like I was just talking to an old buddy, rather some famous person. I told him about the first video I ever saw of his - which is one where he didn't know there was a mirror behind him and he didn't have any pants on, so I said, "My first video of you is the one with your butt in the mirror." He laughed.. which I am so lucky to have caught in a picture as I was telling him.

Look at that face! I was cracking up. He really got a kick out of the fact that my first video of him was of his butt. LOL. And then he said, "Let's get a better picture than that." Which is so considerate, most famous people are like "whatever" when it comes to stuff like that.

By the way his cologne smelled so good! Hahaha. Quickly after that, he was rushed off to speak on the Dave Ramsey show which was impossible to hear in the loud crowded room, so I went to my car to have a mild panic attack over having met the two of them and charged my phone so it wouldn't die in the midst of trying to take pictures. The interview is here: http://www.daveramsey.com/radio/external-player

After the interview was over, I waited it out to see if I could get a picture with both Shay and Collette together. Which as you can see... :)

..made me a very happy camper. I was able to tell them that their videos over the past 5-6 years have inspired me and has helped me to get through tough times. Shay told Collette what I told him about the "butt in the mirror" video and she laughed and said something like, "sorry you had to see that." Shay was pulled away again, but I was able to tell Collette that I really appreciate what they do as well as some personal struggles that I don't want to disclose, to which she hugged me and said, "You are why we continue to do what we do." Of course I'm not REALLY, but I understand that she means it is what encourages them to keep going, after all, it is hard to make a vlog EVERY DAY, especially for as long as they have.

So, to wrap up, I had an amazing day and I still can't believe it happened. I have been able to meet three of my favorite people on YouTube this year, John Green, Shay, and Collette. What else lies in store this year? It really got me to thinking about all the endevours that I have picked up and never finished, so I really want to dedicate as much time as I can to accomplishing as much as I can. Shay and Collette have especially triggered my renewed strength. Again, they do something for me that I could never thank them enough for or even have anything to give back in return.

John Green Week January 3rd - 10th!

Hosted by: I Eat Words

Disclaimer: The following is unedited and was formed by putting thoughts into words with no direction.

Dear John Green & other Nerdfighters but especially John Green,

You are amazing. Yes, that is how I am going to start this letter that you may never read. You are truly inspirational and although I will admit that I haven't been watching you from the very beginning of Vlogbrothers, I have for the past two and a half years been using you. For that I apologize.

"How have you used me?" you ask.

I constantly and uncontrollably stalk you on the internet. Now, don't freak out. Essentially how this works is I will have a bad day or I will feel down about my life and I watch your videos, read your tweets, statuses, rants and words of awesomeness and suddenly I feel motivated and inspired to get back out there and try again.

So many times in life I am stressed, pressured, overworked, underpaid, and under-appreciated and many times throughout the monotonous daily structure of my day I sometimes contemplate why it is I do any of the things I do. Is it to pay the rent? Is it to put food on the table? Is it so that I can have luxuries such as internet, cell phones, and books to read? Well, yes, but what does any of that do if life is a grey matter and the only enjoyment is the sparks of pleasure here and there that materialistic objects bring into my life?

You have changed that for me through your works of literature, through your encouraging and humorous videos and for the community in which you have ignited. You lead by example and I believe that is one of the many reasons why so many people follow you. As an adult I can say that you are my role model and not feel embarrassed about it.

You have helped me put reason to the actions that take place in my life, not only because I have to do them, but because in doing them I can turn mundane tasks into tasks that help change other people's lives and spread positive thoughts onto others who in turn do or say something to someone else who because of being influenced by the positive rather than the negative decide something as big as not to commit suicide to something on a smaller scale such as not to give somebody the finger if they get cut off in line.

So thank you, John Green, for letting me use you and your influence in order to better my life and people's lives around me.

P.S. Try yelling "Don't forget to be awesome" to someone who pulls out in front of you, skips you in line, says something mean to you, etc .See their reaction. You will either get a weird look or the person will smile and say thank you or laugh, or maybe ask you what that means. Either way, you have had the opportunity to make someone else's day a bit brighter, just as you have made mine.

Nerdfighter signing out,
